The Staff Speech-Language Pathologist shall provide quality speech/dysphagia evaluations and treatments to patients with communication and/or swallowing deficits, and participate in the departmental operations as assigned by the Clinical Director.
RESPONSIBLE FOR:
- Identify, assess, and provide treatment for individuals of all ages with communication/dysphagia disorders.
- Manage and supervise programs and services related to human communication and its disorders.
- Counsel individuals with disorders of communication, their families, caregivers, and other service providers relative to the disability present and its management.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Communication and hearing skills which allow for evaluation and treatment of speech/language disorders.
SPECIAL DEMANDS:
- Desire to work with and for people with temporary and/or chronic physical, mental, and developmental handicaps.
- A knowledge of medical terminology to understand prescriptions and communicate with Physicians and Staff.
- Preferably, knowledge and experience in the administration of video fluoroscopic evaluations and therapy for patients with dysphagia.
- Able to work with individuals of all ages from neonates to geriatrics.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's or doctoral degree, the Certificate of Clinical Competence of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and Alabama State License.
TRAINING, EXPERIENCE, OTHER:
Preferred completion of clinical fellowship year or will be supervised by a speech pathologist with a Certificate of Clinical Competence of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
COVID vaccination is preferred for this position. However, an exemption will be entertained.
WORK PERFORMED:
Under the direction of the Clinical Director, the Speech Pathologist provides treatment only on written prescription of a licensed physician.
MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Screening, identifying, assessing and interpreting, diagnosing, and rehabilitating disorders of speech (e.g. articulation, fluency, voice) and language.
- Screening, identifying, assessing and interpreting, diagnosing, and rehabilitating disorders of oropharyngeal function (e.g. dysphagia) and related disorders.
- Screening, identifying, assessing, and interpreting, diagnosing, and rehabilitating cognitive/communication disorders.
- Assessing, selecting, and developing augmentative and alternative communication systems and providing training in their use.
- Assisting in record keeping and charging system of the department.
- Discharge planning in treatment program.
- Documenting evaluation, treatment plan, goals, progress notes, and discharge summary of patients treated.
- Performing staff and nursing in-service programs as needed on areas of relevant interest and need.
